Acupressure for Childbirth

Acupressure for Childbirth

Join Dr. Michelle Hughes from Comox Valley Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine for an interactive course on Acupressure and childbirth on Wednesday February 10 at Podlings Resource Centre from 6:30-8:00 pm.

Acupressure is the stimulation of specific points on the body with pressure. These points stimulate the internal organs, influence hormone levels and increase blood flow to certain parts of the body. During labour these points promote the release of endorphins, aid in cervical dilation, increase the efficiency of contractions and reduce pain levels.

Acupressure is a natural pain relief technique that is easy to learn and helps to support a natural labour as well as partner involvement. A manual will be provided to all participants for easy acupoint location and reference.

Women report a reduction in pain, overall sense of calmness and a high level of satisfaction with the birth experience when using acupressure.

Registration is limited sign up now, call Podlings 250.334.3483 $30 per couple and $20 for a single.

Canadian!

We finally have a great new Mommy and Baby Bath line in...That is locally made, well it's made in Kelowna, B.C and its great!

Lalabee Bathworks

"Our goal is starting Lalabee Bathworks was to provide an affordable organic alternative to baby and mommy skincare.

Lalabee Bathworks manufactures organic skincare products for Mommy & Baby. All our line is made in Canada using certified organic and natural ingredients. We make everything in small batches to ensure quality and freshness. Because our products are preservative free, we recommend a shelf life of one year. We buy local as much as possible and have visited some of the local farms where our ingredients come from.
We strive to be an environmentally responsible company. One of our biggest concerns was picking out packaging for our products. We use recyclable tins, glass and biodegradable cellulose.

Lalabee Bathworks does not test on animals and are members of PETA. A portion of our proceeds are donated to Heifer International Honeybees.

We signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics and our products can be found on the Cosmetic Database. "

Great products we have in our store are

Nipple Butter (vegan)
Herbal Sitz Bath
Mommy Gift Pack(Belly Butter, Sitz Bath, Nipple Butter)

We will start with these, if it's received well, we will offer the whole line.

We are proud to support Canadian Family run businesses, it's what makes the world go 'round!

Come in today as it is fresh on the shelves!

Hypnobirthing 5 week session starts Jan 26th

HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. The concept of HypnoBirthing® is not new, but rather a "rebirth" of the philosophy of birthing as it existed thousands of years ago and as it was recaptured in the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician, who, in the 1920s, was one of the first to forward the concept of natural birthing. The method teaches you that, in the absence of fear and tension, or special medical circumstances, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labor.

You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony--as they were designed to--when your body is sufficiently relaxed and you trust birth. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural birthing instincts for a calm, serene and comfortable birth.

When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you will not be in a trance or a sleep. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming, or focusing, that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or a movie or staring into a fire.

You will be conversant and in good spirits--totally relaxed, but fully in control. Awake throughout, you will be aware of your body's surges and your baby's progress; but because you will have trained yourself to reach complete
relaxation, you will be able to determine the degree and
the manner in which you will feel the surges. You will experience birthing in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, free of the fear that prevents the muscles of your body from functioning as nature intended them to. In this calm state, your body's natural relaxant, endorphins, replaces the stress hormones that constrict and cause pain.

"When you change the way you view birth, the way you birth will change."

-Marie F. Mongan
